Breathe: Into the Shadows

Breathe: Into The Shadows is an Indian show that came out on amazon prime in 2020. in the show. When the protagonist’s daughter Siya goes missing at a friend's birthday party, the couple calls the cops, but nothing happens for months. Avinash and Abha get a mysterious package at the end of episode one that shows Siya is still alive. They must commit a series of heinous crimes in order to save their daughter. When Kabir is assigned to the investigation and meets Avinash, lies, deception, and mind games begin. Will Avinash go to any extent to save his daughter? Will he commit crimes?
“Do you have a design in mind for your blog? Whether you prefer a trendy postcard look or you’re going for a more editorial style blog - there’s a stunning layout for everyone.”
Later in the show we realise that the kidnapper in none other than Avinash himself. Unknowing of his dissociative identity disorder, his alter ego, J, developed when he experienced childhood trauma in an accident and lost his mother, takes it upon himself to punish those who hurt Avinash. J learnt about the importance of emotions through the 10 faces of Ravana. He tried to protect Avinash at every step by the power of these emotions and hurt those who hurt him. Avinash often had impulsivity, self-destructive behaviour, or self-harm, common blackouts, memory lags, altered consciousness, and disbalanced personal life as he never knew J existed. Watch the show to find out how further incidents unravel. Does Avinash commit the crimes just to save his daughter or does he reach out for help?
This disorder usually arises in response to physical and sexual abuse in childhood as a means of surviving mistreatment by people who should be nurturing and protecting. J felt the need to protect Avinash as his father abused him and his mother, making them feel unsafe. After a bus ride accident that killed his mother who he loved too much and his dad, the abuser of his mother, he adapted to his surroundings and dealt with his ptsd by adopting the persona of J. I highly recommend watching this show as not only is it medically accurate in capturing symptoms of DID, it also has a gripping storyline.
